What makes "Goads and Well-Driven Nails" unique?
There are very good radio and internet speakers. Some are strongly evangelistic, predominately pastoral and others speak well to contemporary issues. Goads and Well-Driven Nails is strong in all areas. It is first of all Christ-centered and has an evangelical appeal in every message. It is also pastoral, food for the believer. It is expository and covers nearly every book of the bible (we hope to add messages on a continual basis until it is complete). Lastly, Pastor Aicken is not shy to point out the doctrinal errors and heresies within the Christian church and the folly of life outside of Jesus Christ.
It can be heard weekly every Sunday at 1pm on KARI 550 AM Radio.

The title is from Ecclesiastes 12:11 =
“The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd.”
The Bible tells us that the message of the cross, of Christ and Him crucified, is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe. What that means is that God uses that message of the cross, when men hear it preached, to draw and bind sinners to Christ, to make them willing in a day of His power. In the New Testament, this is described in military terms. Paul tells us that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4,5).
This same thing is described in the Old Testament, by the Preacher in Ecclesiastes 12, in terms of more peaceful yet equally effective operations. As the shepherd takes a stick, or goad, and pokes the sheep (especially the more stubborn ones) to get them moving, so the Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ, pricks the consciences of men who come under the proclamation of His Word, and He does so in order to move them on from where they are as well (see Acts 9:5). As the carpenter, in turn, drives the nails with his hammer, not part way, but all the way into the wood to make what he is building strong, and to keep it from toppling, so the Carpenter from Nazareth brings us under conviction through hearing His Word preached, drives the message home to our hearts where He makes it secure, and assures us that what He has begun in us He will surely finish (see Isaiah 55:11).
